Are the stars good for food ?

Are there lucky days ? Is there lucky food ?
August 20 is said to be the most special day of all.
Imagine if one was born on that day ! What a lucky guy ! (or gal)
Is there food which should be used to celebrate such an auspicious day ?

Well, August 20 is my own birthday, but I am not superstitious so all this luck on August 20 "birthday food" is likely to be wasted on me!
Just some really unhealthy chocolate cake is great - preferably with nothing from anyone's garden in it!

The Chinese certainly believe so. Here is a sample of their perceived lucky food.

Serving a whole chicken during the Chinese New Year season symbolizes family togetherness.

Noodles represent a long life - an old superstition says that it's bad luck to cut them.

Both clams and Spring Rolls symbolize wealth; clams because of their resemblance to bouillon, and Spring Rolls because their shape is similar to gold bars.

The Cantonese word for lettuce sounds like rising fortune, so it is very common to serve a lettuce wrap filled with other lucky food.

The words for tangerine and orange sound like luck and wealth, respectively.

Pomelo signifies abundance, as the Chinese word for pomelo sounds like the word for "to have."

The word for fish, "Yu," sounds like the words both for wish and abundance. On New Year's Eve it is customary to serve a fish at the end of the evening meal, symbolizing a wish for abundance in the coming year. For added symbolism, the fish is served whole, with head and tail attached, symbolizing a good beginning and ending for the coming year.

Sticky Rice Cake is sweet which symbolizes a rich, sweet life, while the layers symbolize rising abundance for the coming year and the round shape signifies family reunion.

As for August 20 being lucky, well, it is the 232nd day of the year in the Gregorian calendar and 133 days remain until the end of the year. In 1866, on August 20, the American Civil War officially ended.

As for food to celebrate a birthday on this day, it would depend on what the host(ess) had in their garden ! It is surely lucky to eat one's own produce.
