Our modern age has created a global food supply, yet there is no standard for global food integrity. OurNakedFood wants to level the playing field on behalf of consumers the world over.
Many food companies and research labs will not release their data publicly, and government are often slow to play catch up - so we consumers are left to unravel the global food chain individually; an impossible task. But by each of us adding just a little bit, we can join the dots to ask and answer the basic questions: "Where is it from, what is actually in it, is it safe?"
This is a site for consumers, researchers and food producers to ask and answer questions of each other in a community setting. The goal is to create a venue for increasing consumer knowledge about safe foods, and a mechanism for food producers to inform consumers about their best practices. As the wise US Justice Brandeis said, "Sunlight is the best disinfectant". We agree.
OurNakedFood’s site structure allows each piece of information to be checked, referenced, searched and debated. The community Reputation and Voting system makes the most useful and relevant information more visible. This information in turn is updated at the major search engines, providing a megaphone effect which makes it easier for people surfing the web to find relevant information about the safety of their food and drink.
Finally, we owe a debt of gratitude to the web’s orginal Q&A forums, plus newer generations such as UserVoice and Stackoverflow. This helped us a lot as we were planning the site for OurNakedFood.
Hamish MacDonald, Founder. Hamish was born and bred in New Zealand, enjoyed a 16-year stretch in Japan, and these days spends most of his time in Bali, struggling to convince people that work is indeed his main preoccupation. Hamish has been an active “Amator” (someone who loves what they do) regarding food contents since he studied composition of his own food for sports training in the late 1980’s. He extended that interest by setting up organics and health food businesses in Japan. Hamish has been involved in technology ventures for several years, and is a founding director of a medical IT venture in Osaka, Japan, and co-founder of the Extreme Geek Guild (starting in Bali from January 2009).
Iona MacDonald, co-founder. Iona has been a medical writer and independent researcher for many years, writing for prestigious organisations such as Adis International (part of Wolters Kluwer Health), and the European Heart Journal. Iona has also worked for a Clinical Research Organisation in Taiwan, and recently left her position at the University of Auckland’s School of Population Health to concentrate on OurNakedFood. In addition to her professional background, Iona’s driving force to analyse food contents has come through scrutinising and selecting foods to provide the best future possible for her daughter, Anthea.
Reisei Fujiwara, Chief Software Architect for Solution Crew Ltd and extreme geek!. Apart from designing the ONF IT architecture, Reisei, along with his mentor at Japan's esteemed technology university: NAIST, Dr. Youki Kadobayashi, helps keep ONF’s IT infrastructure purring along. Reisei, along with Hamish, is co-founder of the Extreme Geek Guild (starting in Bali from January 2009).

The team of Hopeful Monster Ltd Sho Kuriowa, Yasuomi Takeda and Naoya, Dropped everything they were doing to fly from Japan to Bali for three weeks in December where they invoked various IT magic to make sure all the user-interface-thingies connected properly to the database-whatsits.
Matthew Perrin, ONF’s first coder, Matt coded up the initial User Interface. Matt boldly committed to ONF when it was still just an idea, and adventured across from New Zealand to Bali for three months to help set the ball in motion. Still only 18, Matt is already well on the way to becoming an IT veteran, having already been coding for 7 years.
